Version 0.14.1 (Windows, Android)
2026-10-30. Mac follows the Windows release later. All apps share one version number.
Windows
- Start with Windows works again; it no longer fails with “executable file not found in PATH”.
- Sync now skips the short wait for a burst of photos to settle, so they sync right away.
- Gallery: press Delete with photos selected to open the delete prompt.
- Similar copies: the recommended copy is tagged Recommended next to Normal.
- Labs: Photo tools are listed first.
Android
- Sync past photos chip on the main screen, and a folder notice with a Select folders button in the sheet.
- Similar copies show as a grid you can see at a glance instead of a row you scroll sideways.
Version 0.14.0 (Windows, Android)
2026-10-27. Mac follows the Windows release later. All apps share one version number.
Windows
- Pair without a QR code: the phone finds the computer on Wi-Fi, both screens show the same 6-digit code and you choose Accept, Deny or Block on the computer. The QR code still works.
- Notifications: a bell with a small popup for pairing requests, security alerts and helpful ideas. Every item can be dismissed.
- Updates (Microsoft Store): when a new version is out you can choose Update now, Later or Skip this version, and a What's new window shows the notes once after the update.
- Terms of Service: shown on first launch and again whenever the terms change.
- Gallery: the Home tab is now called Gallery. It opens faster with large libraries (the newest photos first, the rest load in the background), refreshes by itself when new photos arrive, shows the first frame of videos, and deleting a video now works like deleting a photo.
- Duplicates: open a group to compare all copies side by side or one by one, then remove them or mark them as not duplicates.
- Activity tab: progress and time left for each phone, and a history of received photos.
- Background scans: a progress badge in the sidebar, a Stop scan button for the duplicate finder and a Scan faster option. Scans keep showing their status after you refresh the window, and a face scan shows an indicator on Gallery and People.
- Play photos: a Play photos button and an idle photo show in the app window.
- No more duplicate phones: when a phone paired in an older version pairs again, its old entry is replaced instead of listed twice.
- New in Labs: Albums by time and place, slideshow videos with music (needs ffmpeg, which you can install with one click) and People (faces found and grouped on this computer only; the models download only after you agree). They are on for new installs and stay off for existing installs until you turn them on. Sending photos from any phone browser is off until you turn it on. Labs is now grouped into sections.
Android
- A simpler home: Photos, Albums and Tools tabs, a small sync status chip and one Settings screen. Open a photo full screen to share or delete it; select several to share or delete them together.
- Pair without a QR code: Find computers on my Wi-Fi is the first connect option.
- Each photo shows whether it is on your computer, and you can filter to Not on my PC yet.
- Send to my PC: share photos from any app to MediaShoot and they go to your computer right away.
- Open with: MediaShoot is offered when you open a photo, and videos you open play in the app.
- Show me how: the ? button walks you through common tasks step by step.
- Terms of Service: shown on first launch and when the terms change. Sync waits until you accept.
- Restore from PC opens faster and shows progress.
- Restore this phone's photos: Restore now lists only the photos this phone sent to the computer. Photos backed up with older versions may not be linked to a phone yet and are not offered for restore.
Details of earlier features (computer app, Android and iPhone)
Longer descriptions of features built before 0.14.0, kept for reference. Most are Labs switches. The Mac and iPhone items are not part of 0.14.0.
Done
- Phone settings on every computer (Labs): each phone chooses how its own photos and videos are stored on every computer it syncs to: the folder layout, and whether it may restore from that computer. Videos now follow the folder layout too. The gallery, memories, categories and duplicates stay set on each computer.
- Photos and videos settings (Android and iPhone, Labs): photos and videos each have the same settings: back up on or off, upload conditions (Wi-Fi only, while charging, quiet hours) and delete from phone. Videos go to every computer that is on, so they can be deleted from the phone with several computers too, and deleted videos are reported to the computer like photos.
- Similar copies (Android and iPhone, Labs): look-alike photos taken in the same burst are found on the phone before they sync. The best one syncs; for the copies you choose: sync, sync then delete from the phone, delete, or keep them on the phone without syncing. With no answer within 5 minutes (you can change this) they sync anyway and you are told when they are done. Sync past photos can check for copies too (off by default, as it can take long).
- MediaShoot for Mac: a native Mac app with a menu bar icon, its own window, Dock icon while open, Mac menus (Home, Back, Forward, Reload, Full Screen) and Open at login. Photos removed from the duplicate finder go to the Mac Trash.
- New app window (Mac and Windows): sections on the left (Home, Phones, Settings, Labs, About), a welcome guide for the first phone, counters for photos received, today, phones and the last photo, and quick actions.
- Several phones on one computer: each phone has its own "Sync photos from this phone" switch and a count of the photos it sent. A switched-off phone keeps its photos queued and never deletes them.
- Several computers on one phone (Android): the computer list shows which computers are paired and available right now, with a "Sync to this computer" checkbox and Check now.
- Phone names and details: rename phones, see when each was paired and its model. Pairing the same phone again replaces its old entry instead of adding a new one. A phone is recognised by its own key, so a different Wi-Fi network does not matter.
- Sync now (computer): announces the computer on your network again and refreshes the router mapping, so phones find it on their next check.
- Photo viewer: click a photo in the gallery to open it. Close with ✕, Esc or a click outside the photo; previous and next with the arrow buttons, ← →, swipe, Home and End; click the photo to zoom in or out, or use + and −, pinch or ⌘/Ctrl-scroll; pan by dragging; R rotates the view.
- Camera photos only (Android): only photos you take with the camera back up automatically. WhatsApp, screenshots, downloads and images saved by other apps are Manual: send them with Sync past photos, or set that folder to Auto.
- Duplicate finder fixes: the gallery's own thumbnail cache is no longer scanned, and photos with very different resolutions are no longer called similar.
- Away from home per phone: after you allow syncing away from home in Settings, you can turn it off for a single phone. That phone then syncs only on your home network.
- Photo details: the computer remembers which phone sent each photo and whether the phone later deleted its own copy.
- Slideshows (Windows and Mac, Labs): save named slideshows from photos you pick or from a rule that stays current (a category, a phone, this month or year, or the newest photos). Choose the order, how often the desktop changes, fit, background colour, AC power only and active hours; play a slideshow in the window with fade or slide, or run one on your desktop. The old desktop slideshow is kept as "Desktop slideshow".
- Labs without restarting: turning a Labs feature on or off on the computer applies at once. Only "Status icons in the tray" needs a restart.
- Power plan switch (Android): the Power plan choice is now behind its own Labs switch.
- Gallery as the home screen: Home shows your photos with the status and counters above them. Every counter is clickable: Photos received shows all photos, Today shows today's, Phones paired opens Phones, Last photo opens it in the viewer.
- Gallery filters and views: filter by phone, date (today, last 7 days, this month, this year or your own dates) and folder; view by day, month, year, folder or phone. The folder layout in Settings only decides how files are stored.
- Navigation: Back and Forward buttons and a path (Home › Settings) at the top of the window, and Esc goes up one level: photo → gallery → Home.
- Settings only configure: the Photos folder moved into Settings, together with how new photos are stored, the gallery switch, away from home, extra copy and the duplicate finder switch. Turning on a feature adds its own section on the left.
- Duplicates section: previews side by side with size, resolution, date and folder; the best copy is kept by default and the others are ticked; move the ticked ones to the Trash or Recycle Bin, or mark a group as not duplicates. Also opens from "Find duplicates" in the gallery.
- Deleted from phone: each photo shows which phone sent it and whether it was deleted from that phone ("Off phone" on the photo, details in the viewer). The phone reports photos that left it, whether MediaShoot or another app deleted them.
- Themes: six colour themes (Classic, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, Lavender, Graphite) in light and dark, and a cover photo from your gallery shown behind the whole app ("Use as cover" in the viewer). Menus, cards, buttons and the gallery panel are see-through over it (no blur); the photos themselves are always fully opaque, each with its own frame, and the photo viewer has a solid dark background.
- Desktop background: "Set as background" in the viewer, or Select several photos in the gallery and choose "Use as desktop slideshow" with how often it changes (Mac and Windows).
- Delete photos: delete a photo from the viewer (Delete button or the Delete key), from the right-click menu, or Select several in the gallery and choose Delete. Photos go to the Trash or Recycle Bin after you confirm, so you can restore them. Only the computer's copy is deleted; the phone is not touched.
- Right-click menu on photos: Open, Show info, Set as desktop background, Use as cover, Select and Delete, in the gallery and in the viewer.
- Photo info: the \u24D8 button or the I key in the viewer shows the date taken, size and resolution, camera, editing app, location (with a map link), which phone sent it, when it arrived, whether it is still on the phone, its tags (categories), folder and file date.
- Restore my previous background: MediaShoot remembers your own desktop background before it first changes it; Settings › Desktop background puts it back and stops a slideshow.
- More room for photos on Home: the title is now "Gallery", the counts are small buttons on the same line (photos, today, phones, last photo; each still opens what it counts), and Sync now, Open photos folder and Pair another phone are icon buttons on the right. The "Esc goes back one level" hint is gone (Esc still works). Memories and Categories moved into the gallery toolbar.
- Select mode: the Delete button is red with a bin icon, and the selection buttons sit on the left where the filters are.
- Windows tray matches the Mac menu bar: the same items in the same order (Open MediaShoot, Open photos folder, Copy address, Pair new phone, Photo gallery, Settings, Privacy, About, Quit MediaShoot), and a left click on the tray icon opens MediaShoot.
- Sync activity on the computer (Labs: Sync activity): while a phone sends photos, Home shows "Receiving from Pixel 8 · 1,240 of 3,000 · about 12 min left" with a progress bar. The new Activity section shows each phone's progress, how many photos were new, how many were already on the computer, how many are still on the phone, the pace and the time left, and a history of every received photo by day (click one to open it).
- Time left on the phone: while syncing, the app shows "1,240 of 3,000 · about 12 min left" and the notification shows the time left. The phone also tells the computer how many photos are still waiting, so the computer can show the same progress.
- Faster thumbnails where you are looking: the gallery loads the photos in view first, nearest the middle of the window, and drops the ones you scrolled past, so fast scrolling no longer leaves you waiting for photos you are not looking at. Background photo analysis waits while you browse.
- Shift+click to select a range: select one photo, then Shift+click another to select every photo in between. Shift+click on a photo also starts Select mode. Cmd+click (Ctrl+click on Windows) adds or removes a single photo. Select is always available; Delete and Use as desktop slideshow appear in the selection bar when they are on in Labs.
- Fixed: Cmd+click or Ctrl+click on a photo opened the bare file inside the window, and Esc could not get back to the gallery.
- Timeline on the left of the gallery: a scrollbar you can drag, year tags from your newest to your oldest year (up to 6; the first and last are always shown; click one to jump there) and a month tag on the scrollbar that follows the photos you are looking at; drag the scrollbar or the month tag to scroll. With fewer than 6 years, the free places show where months start.
- Fixed: in Select mode, clicking a photo (including the edge of its circle) only selects it and never opens it.
- Fixed: the gallery on Home now fits the window, so its scrollbar no longer runs past the bottom of the app.
- Fixed: dragging a zoomed-in photo on the Mac only started after releasing the mouse button once.
- Fixed: clicking a photo in the viewer closed it instead of zooming in.
- Phone identity (Android): when pairing, the phone sends the name you gave it, its model and a private install id, so the computer shows a real name and recognises the same phone when you pair again.
